Customisation and evaluation

Both RBMT and SMT engines can be “customised” so that the translations are adapted to the domain and content type the user wants to process. Terminology can be used to create user specific dictionaries or in the case of SMT the engine is trained with customer built parallel corpora. It is crucial for companies that are considering implementing MT technology to carry out an evaluation program that will lead to real implementation taking into account various aspects. Although the quality of the MT translations is a prime consideration, quality will have a major impact on the user satisfaction or productivity increase.
